It's the night before your big term paper is due, and you haven't started a thing! Here are some easy tips to follow to help get that paper done quickly!

Most high school students and nearly all college and graduate students will have to deal with the pains of writing a term paper. These papers can range anywhere from eight to twenty pages in length, which can be extremely intimidating, especially if you have waited until the day before to even look at it. In this case, procrastination does not necessarily mean getting a poor grade.

The first thing to consider


The very first thing you should do when writing a term paper is to clear yourself of distractions. Admit to yourself that things are going to be a lot more difficult if you don't keep yourself from updating your Facebook and Twitter accounts between every sentence you write. Stay off of the social networking sites until you are finished with your paper. Then, once you are finished, tell the world how happy you are that you finished so quickly!

After you have cleared yourself of distraction, look at the topic you or your professor has chosen for your paper. Take out a pen and paper and write down anything that you know about this topic. Is it something that is familiar to you? If so, application is key! Professors like it when you can apply real world instances to the topic you are writing about in your paper. Keep in mind, this does not necessarily mean writing in the first person. Many professors strictly prohibit the writing in first person dialogue when it comes to term papers.

Start Googling!


Once you know what your topic is, and have written everything that you know about it on a piece of paper, put your topic into the Google search engine. Google is a wonderful resource that will help you to find all of the information you need to write your paper. Make sure to keep all of the sources you use bookmarked or written down so that you may cite them properly at the end of your paper.

If your professor has limited you to using only a certain number of Internet sources, that's ok! You don't have to get up and go to the library right away! There are numerous online scholarly journals, newspapers, and ebooks that will count as non-Internet sources. These types of sites always list the copyright information at the bottom of the page. Use this information for your works cited page.

Outline

Now that you have a general idea of what you are going to be writing about, take out another piece of paper and make yourself an outline. This will save you a lot of time once you start writing, as you are not blindly wondering where to go next with your text. Write down every possible angle that you think could be touched upon about your topic. This means pros and cons about your topic, the history of your topic, what other people think about your topic, little known facts, etc.
